WORK AREA
1. Operate in a safe work environment. Keep your work area clean, well lit and free of distractions.
2. Keep anyone not wearing appropriate safety equipment away from the work area.
3. Do not install or use in the presence of flammable gases or liquids.
PERSONAL SAFETY
CAUTION! Wear personal protective equipment approved by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) or
American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
1. Always wear impact safety goggles that provide front and side protection for the eyes.
2. Wear gloves that provide protection based on the work materials or to reduce the effects of vibration.
3. Non-skid footwear is recommended to maintain footing and balance in the work environment.
4. Wear steel toe footwear or steel toe caps to prevent injury from falling objects.
5. Wear protective clothing designed for the work environment.
PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Control the device, personal movement and the work environment to avoid personal injury or damage to the device.
1. Do not operate any device when tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medications.
2. Avoid wearing clothes or jewelry that can become entangled with the moving parts of the device. Keep long
hair covered or bound.
3. Do not overreach when operating the device. Proper footing and balance enables better control in
unexpected situations.
SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. Do not insert a finger or any object into the pump or motor openings.
2. The pump is non-submersible. Keep the motor dry at all times. Protect the motor from wet weather.
3. Do not handle the pump motor with wet hands or when standing on a wet or damp surface
4. The motor has built-in thermal protection. This protects the motor against burnout due to low voltage, high
voltage and other causes such as an overload. The device is automatic and resets itself once the temperature
has dropped to a safe point. Frequent tripping of the device indicates trouble in the motor or power lines.
Discontinue use until a qualified electrician has inspected the pump.
5. Do not pump hot liquids. This will overheat the pump and the thermal protection system will shut the pump
down until it has cooled down.
6. This pump is designed to handle clear water. Any of the following can clog the pump or damage the
pump system:
a. Physical obstruction such as sand, dirt, debris or water scale/rust.
b. Caustic liquids like salt water, brine, laundry discharge or any other liquid containing caustic chemicals
and/or foreign materials.
c. Flammable or explosive fluids such as gasoline, fuel oil, kerosene, etc.
7. Never run the pump dry or against a closed discharge. The pump may overheat, damaging the seals and
creating a situation where a burn injury can result. Prime the pump with water before starting.
8. Do not allow pump or any other system component to freeze, as this can damage the pump
during operation.
9. Do not run the pump dry. This will cause cavitation in the pump mechanism and can damage the
pump beyond repair.
