REMOVING THE BLADES
You may occasionally want to remove the cutting blades to clean or sharpen them. A hex tool is provided for you to
do that.
CAUTION! Be sure the tool is unplugged before beginning work.
1. Place the tool on a workbench or other flat surface where you can easily work on it, and where you will not
lose small parts.
2. Using the hex tool, remove the three cap screws and nuts (23). Place these small parts in a safe place so
they do not get lost.
3. The fixed blades (24 and 27) will be loose, as will the movable blade (25) and two bushings (26). Place the
all parts in a safe place so they do not get lost.
4. Clean or sharpen the blades as required.
NOTE: Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool.
5. Reassemble by repositioning the blades, and bushings. Replace the cap screws and nuts. Tighten securely.
6. Test the electric shear to be sure that the blades were replaced properly and securely.
ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE
1. The electrical brushes should be checked periodically and worn-out brushes should be replaced. After
replacing, inspect whether the new electrical brushes can move freely in the brush holder. Run the motor for
15 minutes without load to shape the brushes, so that they are properly aligned with the commutator.
2. Keep the vent passage clear from dirt. Clean off accumulated dust and oil dirt periodically.
3. During normal operation, if anything abnormal should happen, the power supply should be cut off at once
and the tool should be checked and repaired.
4. Clean the tool after each use.
NOTE: Only qualified service personnel should repair the tool.
REPLACING THE ELECTRICAL CARBON BRUSHES
1. Using the parts list included, locate the electrical brushes. Remove the brush holder caps with a screwdriver
and inspect the electrical brushes. Replace them when they are worn up to about one third.
2. Take the old electrical brush out and install new brushes. Remove all of the brushes at once. Make sure the
electrical brush slides freely within the brush housing.
3. Run the motor for 15 minutes without load to shape the electrical brushes, so that they are properly aligned
with the commutator.
STORAGE
In the event that it becomes necessary to store the tool for an extended period of time (overnight, weekend, etc.,) it
should receive a generous amount of lubrication at that time. The tool should be run for approximately 30 seconds
to ensure oil has been evenly distributed. The tool should be stored in a clean and dry environment.
DISPOSING OF THE TOOL
If your electric shear has become damaged beyond repair, do not throw it out. Take it to the appropriate
recycling facility.
