Practical tips for the selection of the recording quality
Since Pinnacle Video Transfer supports numerous formats and resolutions for
your video recordings here are some practical tips regarding the respective
recording qualities.
„Best“ Quality
Recording on USB sticks and USB hard disks with
Best
quality provides
pictures in the highest possible resolution (technically known as "Full D1"), that
is to say with a resolution of 720 x 576 (480) pixels for PAL, SECAM (NTSC).
These pictures are recorded with the so-called interlaced process (also known as
interlaced scanning), i.e. both video signal half-pictures (fields) are stored
unchanged.
This recording format gives the best possible quality for subsequent video
editing (e.g. with Pinnacle VideoSpin, see
http://www.videospin.com
) and
possible DVD creation. This is also the correct setting if you wish to view your
videos directly on a television or from a DVD.
Playing back recordings in the interlaced process on a PC screen with the
QuickTime Player™ or the Windows Media Player does not offer very high
display quality because these players do not offer support for interlaced recorded
material. This leads to inconvenient comb effects at the edge of areas of
movement in the video picture on a PC screen. If you wish to eliminate these
effects during playback, we recommend using a player with de-interlacing
software (for example the VLC Player at
http://www.videolan.org
).
If you wish to play the recordings on a PC with the QuickTime Player™ or
Windows Media Player we recommend using
Good
or
Better
recording quality.
„Better“ Quality
Use this recording quality if you wish to record your videos to watch on an
Apple iPod®, Sony® PSP™ or a television and wish to achieve excellent
results.
„Good“ or „Better“ Quality
If you record files on a USB stick or a USB hard disk in order to
subsequently make further use of them with iTunes® on an iPod® touch or an
iPhone™ or
To view them on a PC or
to place them in a video portal via the PC,
we recommend that you select
Good
or
Better
recording quality from the start.
