Continuous mode (scan mode)
This section describes the usefulness and the activation/deactivation of the continuous mode.
After activation of this mode, the readings are displayed virtually in continuous mode after the
probe has been placed on the sample’s surface. The maximum display rate is 180
readings/minute.
Scan mode is useful:
- when searching the thinnest or thickest point of a coating. By means of the minimum
maximum-display (↑ and ↓) in the display, you can find these points by simply moving the
probe over the surface without lifting it;
- when using the tube probe in small tubes. The space may be not sufficient to lift the probe
after each measurement;
- when measuring large surfaces. You can quickly check the coating thickness of the complete
surface at different positions without lifting the probe after each measurement. Discrepancies
in thickness values can be detected very quickly.
During normal operation, the PCE-CT 100 only shows a thickness value if the underlying
measurements are stable. This function prevents fluctuating or faulty readings and increases the
accuracy of the gauge. In continuous mode, this function can cause readings at irregular intervals
or even no readings due to the movement of the probe. Therefore, you can choose whether you
want to measure with all values or only with stable values.
Activating continuous mode with all values
Procedure:
1. Press Arrow Down key three times until “Measuring mode” appears on the display
2. Press OK key; “Autom. Detection FN, F, N” appears on the display
3. Press Arrow Down key twice; “Continuous mode” appears on the display
4. Press OK key
5. Press Arrow Down key until “Conti-mode with all values” appears on the display
6. Press OK key. “Conti-mode with all values activated” appears on the display for a short time,
followed by the start screen with the four dashes – – – –
Continuous mode is used only for the measuring method (Ferr, Non-Ferr) which was activated
last. When the base material changes, continuous mode has to be activated again, if desired.
