3.6 Calibrating the Sound Level Meter
Refer to your calibrator and microphone-preamplifier product manuals for specific
requirements in performing the acoustic calibration.
TAKE NOTE
For best results, use Larson Davis Precision Acoustic Calibrators
and Larson Davis Microphone-Preamplifiers.
TAKE NOTE
We recommended that you calibrate the 831C after deploying the
system.
Step 1.
Holding the windscreen and birdspike together, unscrew the assemblies until
they come apart.
Step 2.
Place the calibrator gently over the microphone to avoid sudden large pressure
changes to the diaphragm.
Step 3.
On the sound level meter, navigate to
Tools
3
Calibrate
.
Step 4.
Select the calibrator from the
Select Calibrator
drop-down menu.
Step 5.
If the calibrator settings need to be modified, click
Edit Settings
, make any
necessary changes, then verify that the settings correspond to those described
in the calibrator’s manual.
Step 6.
Press the power button on the calibrator.
Step 7.
On the meter, select
Do Calibration
.
