Properly installed and maintained, the PanBlast

TM

AirScan Mobile CO Monitor will measure the level of
carbon monoxide and many toxic hydrocarbons in the
compressed air sample. The instrument does NOT
remove or convert carbon monoxide.

VISUAL INDICATORS, CONTROLS AND AUDIO

INFORMATION

Using Figure 3 as a reference, the following lists the
function of the indicators and controls used in operating
and calibrating the PanBlast

TM

 AirScan Mobile CO Monitor.

The audio alarms related to these controls are noted:

1

Horn

2

External alarm/status light. This indicator will
be GREEN, RED or YELLOW.

GREEN: No alarm condition.

RED: Carbon monoxide or hydrocarbons have
exceeded the pre-set alarm limits.

YELLOW: Indicates one of four possible
conditions: -

Warm-up period two minutes (No Audio).

RUN/CAL switch in CAL position (10 second
beep).

LOW-pressure condition (10 second beep).

HIGH-pressure condition (10 second beep).

3

The air quality indicator provides the
instrument operator knowledge of the alarm
condition of the toxic gas sensor. When the
sample air contamination exceeds the pre-set
alarm limit the calibration status indicator will
turn red.  When the contamination is less than
the pre-set alarm limit the indicator will be
green.

4

The calibration adjustment control screw is
used only during the calibration procedure
covered later in this manual.

5

The RUN/Calibration selection valve control
allows the instrument technician to select the
source of the sample gas to the instrument.

In the Run mode the sample is from the
breathing air system and in the calibration
mode the sample comes from the calibration
gas port.

6

The flow meter indicator provides an
illuminated indication of flow through the
instrument. This flow should be about 0.5 SCFH,
which is mid-range on the indicator.

7

The calibration gas input port provides the
capability to introduce calibration gases to the
instrument sensor when the calibration/Run
valve is in the calibration mode.

INITIAL SET-UP

5.1

Confirm that the installation of the PanBlast

TM

AirScan Mobile CO Monitor is consistent with
the requirements illustrated in the installation
section of this manual.

5.2

Confirm that users have read this manual and
are familiar with the operation of the PanBlast

TM

AirScan Mobile CO Monitor.

5.3

The following startup procedure is based on the
PanBlast

TM

AirScan Mobile CO Monitor being a

new factory calibrated unit or a unit being
returned to service with proper calibration.

5.4

The PanBlast

TM

 AirScan Mobile CO Monitor

should be powered up electrically first and then
the sample flow initiated.

5.5

Using the Sample regulator #9, Figure 3
accessed by loosening the faceplate screw #8,
Figure 3. Adjust (top of regulator) the flow to
the instrument until the flow indicator
illuminates a midrange of the GREEN indicator
lights. The RUN/CAL switch must be in the RUN
position.

Observe the visual indicators for a minute or
slightly more.

Air Quality Indicator – RED briefly – then
GREEN.

Alarm Status Indicator - YELLOW warm-up
period - then GREEN.

5.6

With the visual indicators all GREEN, move the
RUN/CAL switch to the CAL position. This will
stop the sample flow to the sensor and the
ALARM STATUS INDICATOR will immediately
turn YELLOW.

The alarm horn will initiate an intermittent
alarm (10 Seconds)

5.7

Move the RUN/CAL switch to the RUN position.
Warm-up will be initiated and the audio will
terminate. In two minutes the instrument will
return to normal operation and all lights will
become GREEN if the sample air is clean.

Prior to putting a PanBlast

TM

 AirScan Mobile CO

Monitor into service after successful startup the
following RESPONSE CHECK procedure should
be completed to confirm an operational
calibration.
