THE AIRSCAN MOBILE CO MONITOR IS NOT

FOR USE IN EXPLOSIVE AREAS

INSTALLATION

3.1

The PanBlast™ AirScan Mobile CO Monitor is
designed to operate in a portable or fixed
application. In all applications it is important to
consider:

-

Availability of electrical power – 220VAC
or 110VAC or 12VDC.

-

Keeping volume of sample line small.

-

User ability to hear alarms.

-

Instrument and sample line stability and
protection from damage.

-

Instrument thermal environment between

4.5

ºC

(40

º

F) and 82

ºC

(180

º

F).

-

Access to controls for operational checks
and calibration.

-

Sample line originates downstream of
filtering and air treatment.

3.2

The sample air from the breathing air system
should be set up to avoid any undue moisture
problems. Good practice and use of water legs
and vertical sampling from lines should be
observed. Refer to Figure 2 for optional ways to
limit any condensation problems.

3.3

The sample line should be provided with the
necessary reduction plumbing to fit the 6mm
(1/4") NPT female opening on the AirScan
Mobile CO Monitor. It is recommended that the
ID of the sample line be as small as possible
down to 1.5mm (1/16”) ID.

3.4

The electrical connection is set up as standard
220 VAC 50Hz. Ready shut-off of fixed
installations should be provided. Sample line
volume is critical; keep line as short as possible.
3mm (1/8") OD x 1.5mm (1/16") ID
Polyurethane tubing is commonly used as the
sample line although it may require physical
protection in exposed areas. Galvanized and
PVC material should not be used.

OPERATION

4.1

The PanBlast™ AirScan Mobile CO Monitor
operation is based on taking a small sample
from the breathing air system concurrent with
the air being delivered to personnel in
approved breathing apparatus. This small
sample is exposed to a sensor capable of
detecting low levels of carbon monoxide (CO)
and other toxic gases or vapors. Using known
levels of carbon monoxide gas (10 ppm CO for
example) it is possible to calibrate the AirScan
Mobile CO Monitor to generate alarms when the
sensor is exposed to levels equal to or higher
than the level of the calibration gas.

Since it is critical that the sample air be
continuously monitored the PanBlast

TM

 AirScan

Mobile CO Monitor also has a pressure sensor
that confirms the sample flow. If the sample
airflow is too low or too high, the instrument
will initiate a flow alarm. (Refer to the section of
the manual on visual annunciators, controls,
and audio alarms for more information on these
alarms.)
