E.  TROUBLESHOOTING

24.  Loopbacks Issued from the Front Panel

24.1

Loopbacks permit you to perform isolated diagnostic tests on specific areas of the circuit.  The
transmitted signal is returned (looped back) to the sending device after passing through a data
communications link or network.  This allows you to compare the returned signal with the
transmitted signal and to determine if there is a problem with the circuit.  This section addresses
loopbacks issued from the front panel (see Section 19 for loopbacks issued from the Maintenance
Terminal menu).  The HLU-D41 FT1 loopback configuration for a two-doubler system is shown in
Figure 8. When two doublers are installed in the system, the HLU-D41 system has eight types of user
initiated loopbacks.  Table 17 lists the HiGain loopbacks which are available for any system
configuration.  Table 18 shows a comprehensive listing of all HiGain loopbacks.
