Questions
Answers
What is VarioTherm®?
VarioTherm® is a body temperature‑
reactive plastic for soft flexible earmolds.
The unique properties of this material
allow the mold to remain hard at room
temperature for ease of insertion and
then soften at body temperature
for increased comfort and optimum
sealing.
What are the benefits of VT molds
over our other molds?
The design of the VT mold allows us to
forgo the grommet/adaptor. This
enables us to produce a smaller mold
that fits better with deeper insertion.
Is the VarioTherm® material
hypoallergenic?
No. VarioTherm® material is biocompatible
but not hypoallergenic. This means this
material is safe to use for the majority of
users and should not create allergies.
Do the molds discolor?
The VT molds are transparent in color and
do not discolor.
How long do molds made with
the VarioTherm® material
typically last?
A mold made with VarioTherm® material
can last about 2 years. However this is
dependent on the daily care and
maintenance of the mold.
Which speakers are they
available for?
VarioTherm® molds are available for the
60 and 85 miniFit speakers only.
What is the best way for the patient
to care for their VT mold?
Wiping the mold down with a damp cloth
is the best way to care for the VT mold.
What is the best way to heat the
VT mold?
Warm the VT Mold with a blower (2200W
hair dryer is recommended) for about 10
seconds at a distance of approximately 4
inches before attaching the receiver.
Remember to use caution when heating
and handling the mold.
How do I ensure a proper speaker
placement?
Be sure the tip of the speaker is flush with
the tip of the VT mold.
What is the best way to do in-office
modifications?
Before performing any modifications to
the VT mold, (i.e. tapering the canal or
enlarging the vent) ensure the mold is
cool to the touch. To do modifications you
will need a freeze spray (found in
electronic stores) and a carbon burr. You
will need to use the freeze spray
periodically during the modification
process. After the modification is done,
soften the grinding marks with the
buffing wheel.
Are there any recommendations for
choosing a vent?
For all venting considerations, please see
order form.
Are vent plugs available?
Yes. Choose venting according to the
patient’s needs.
