The following picture shows a typical transmission calibration setup. The DUT is replaced by a Thru-
connector.

The factory calibration of

Bode 100

moves the reference plane exactly between two cables

of 0.5 m length. So you can measure S21 using the delivered cables having a well calibrated
test-setup.
