RECEPTION WITH EXTERNAL ANSWERING MACHINE
If you connect an external answering machine (TAD) to the fax machine you can automatically record an
incoming message and within the same call receive a document.
The display shows the initial operating mode, i.e. automatic reception
mode. The answering machine is connected to the fax machine.
An outgoing message is recorded on the answering machine.
Example message: " This is John Smith and company. I'm sorry that
there is nobody to take your call at the moment. You can leave a
message or send a fax; please wait for the tone before speaking or
transmitting your fax."
The answering machine has been set-up to respond to a call after a
certain number of rings (you are recommended to set 2 or 3 rings).
1.
Press RX MODE repeatedly to select TAD/FAX reception mode.
The fax machine in conjunction with the answering machine is
now ready to pick up incoming signals and when a call arrives it
is able to distinguish between a phone call and a fax call.
If the call is a phone call:
The answering machine will respond with the message that you
have previously recorded, record the incoming message and
then terminate the connection. The fax machine will then display
the operating mode.
IF...
•
the caller wants to send a fax after leaving a message on the
answering machine, at the end of the message he/she must
start the transmission on his/her fax. Your fax will pick up the
call signal and prepares for reception as explained in “If the
call is a fax call” which follows.
•
the fax detects a silence lapse of approximately six seconds
(after the incoming message has been recorded or if the caller
does not leave a message), it will enter automatic reception
mode. The duration of the period of silence lapse may be
modified using the SILENCE LAPSE parameter (see
INSTALLATION
PARAMETERS,
heading
: Programming Chart
and Description of the Sub-Menu: Tel. Line Set-Up
).
•
the period of silence lapse set on the answering machine is
shorter than that set on the fax, the answering machine
interrupts connection. Obviously if this condition exists, which
does not allow the fax to receive the document, it will not allow
the caller to send a fax during a phone call and it is therefore
necessary to modify the value of the “SILENCE LAPSE”
installation parameter.
