With all solar systems the side of the collector inlet for the liquid which is heated up is
called return. Flow describes the sides of the collector where the hot liquid leaves the
collector and is transported to the tank.
Note: It is important that the temperature sensor is installed in the flow (hot) of the
collector.
Connection types
The only cable types approved for solar installations are copper pipes, continuous flexible
stainless steel and mild steel pipes.
Copper pipes must only be connected using compression fittings or brazed joints.
Soft solder or galvanized connections are not strong enough to withstand the high
temperatures and the expansion and are therefore not suitable for solar systems.
Do not use PEX/plastic/PEX-ALU-PEX or galvanized pipes and fittings.
Flexible pipe connections
We recommend flexible hoses for ducting the manifold connection through the roof of
the building. All internal pipe connections are thus flexible.
Insulation
All solar pipes must be insulated with high temperature insulation. Standard pipe
insulation would melt because the temperatures generated by solar systems are too high.
The wall thickness of the insulation must be the same as the pipe diameter. The only pipes
not to be insulated are the ones for the auxiliary vessel and the expansion tank. They are
meant to dissipate heat if the system is exposed to extreme heat and pressure.
System pressure
The recommended system pressure is 1 bar +0.1 bar per 1 m static height.
