Secure Multimedia Controller

Implementation Guide

Installation

This section provides step-by-step instructions for physically installing the 
components of the SMC. It is assumed that the other components of the 
network, such as routers, servers, hubs, and so on, are physically installed.

Note 1:

Note 2:

The instructions in this chapter are for installing a single unit. 

For the procedure to interconnect SMCs in an HA configuration, see 
“Installing the redundant SMC” on 

page 98

.

Required equipment

You can rack-mount the SMC in a standard 19 inch (in.) rack, or install it on 
a shelf or other flat surface. You need the following tools and supplies to 
install the components:

•

#2 Phillips screwdriver

•

straight edge

•

someone to hold the unit in place while you secure it in the rack

Safety precautions

Read all safety precautions before installing or servicing this device.

Ventilation safety

The ambient temperature of an operating SMC must not exceed 35ºC. When 
installing the device in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, consider that the 
operating ambient temperature of the equipment can be higher than the 

CAUTION — Service Interruption

This device is a Class A product. In a domestic 
environment, this device can cause radio interference, in 
which case the user may be required to take appropriate 
measures.
