Disassembly
CAUTION: Do not scratch or score the plunger shaft or the pressure
housing ID. Any burrs will damage the packing V-rings and cause leaks.
1. See Figure C 2-3. Place the pressure housing (8) horizontally in the
soft-jawed vise, clamping on the pressure housing flats.
2. Unscrew the solvent cup (1) from the upper housing (3).
3. Unscrew the upper housing (3) from the pressure housing and lift it off
the plunger (4).
4. Pull the plunger out of the pressure housing (8). If the plunger won’t
come out, leave it in until step 7.
5. Unscrew the siphon housing (14) from the pressure housing (8).
6. If you couldn’t pull the plunger out of the pressure housing in step 5, you
can now use a rubber mallet to drive the plunger down through the
pressure housing. If no rubber mallet is available, use a hammer and
wood block on the end of the plunger to protect it from damage.
7. Remove the pressure housing (8) from the soft-jawed vise.
8. Place the plunger (4) and pressure ball seat (6) vertically into the
soft-jawed vise, clamping on the ball seat flats.
9. Unscrew the plunger from the pressure ball seat. Set the small ball (5)
aside. Remove the pressure ball seat from the soft-jawed vise.
10. Remove the lower packing assembly (2) from the pressure ball seat.
Self-adjusting packings include wave springs and backup washers, Type
D packings also include shims.
11. Remove the ball cage (10), large ball (11), siphon ball seat (12), and
white PTFE O-ring (13) from the siphon housing (14).
12. Remove the upper packing assembly (2) from the upper housing.
Self-adjusting packings include wave springs and backup washers, Type
D packings also include shims.
13. Remove the white PTFE O-rings (7) and the black Buna-N O-ring (9)
from the pressure housing (8).
