Nordblast NB Home Sodablasting Gun is an amazingly handy and versatile tool for both pro-

What is sodablasting?
Soda can be used for many different refurbish-
ing jobs and for a great variety of tasks in your
everyday life. Sodablasting is a gentle method
for applications where sand or other traditional
blasting media cannot be used. Soda neither
damages glass, rubber or chrome, nor heats or
stretches the sheet metal. Using soda, you can
remove paint, impurities, mould and grease from
many kinds of objects. Soda is an environmen-
tally friendly choice that is soluble in water. This
makes it easier to clean up afterwards.
What is sodablasting?
Sodablasting is a process for removing paint
or contaminants from fragile surfaces. When
performed correctly, the blasting has very little
effect on the original surface, but just removes
the paint or dirt and leaves the base in its
original condition. The idea of blasting with
soda involves directing a mix of air and soda at
the target at a pressure of about 3-10 bar. The
structure of the soda particle decomposes easily
when it comes into contact with a hard surface.
The energy released in this decomposition
removes the paint or dirt. Despite the disintegra-
tion of the particles, the sodablasting method
is very gentle. For example, it neither heats nor
stretches sheet metal at all. The disintegration
takes place at a very low temperature, because
the melting point of soda is just 50 degrees
centigrade.
The chemical name of soda is Sodium Hydro-
gen Carbonate (NaHCO3). It is a white powder
that is easily soluble in water. When coming
in contact with the surface to be blasted, the
sodium hydrogen carbonate decomposes into
sodium bicarbonate, carbon dioxide and water.
This is why soda cannot be reused for blasting
purposes, but can only be used once. Blasting
soda is practically the same as the baking soda
that is commonly available on supermarket
shelves – only with a larger grain size. With a pH
value of 8.6, blasting soda is nearly neutral in
terms of acidity, which means it is very environ-
ment-friendly.
What can the device be used for?
Soda and sodablasting can be applied in many
different ways, and new fields of application
are found almost every day! Because soda
is a gentle blasting medium, you can try it on
new objects pretty freely, but you still need to
be careful. Whether for restoring your house,
furniture, old cars, mopeds, tractors, or boats
– sodablasting is just the right choice for you.
Sodablasting is ideal for removing old paint,
varnish, mould, grease or other stains in a gentle
and environmentally friendly way.

Despite all its incredible features, soda is not
suited to every kind of job. Sodablasting is not
suited to removal of rust. Sodablasting neither
grinds nor wears metal, so it cannot be applied
for removal of rust. Sodablasting takes more
time than traditional blasting methods, but it
certainly leaves a finer finish, and of course,
for a variety of applications rougher and harder
blasting methods are simply not applicable.
