4. Press the MENU key to exit the Menu features.
Check that the purge pattern is complete, without any blank areas or white streaks.
If the pattern is OK, then immediately send the job and start printing.
If the pattern is not complete then you should run the purge again.
If the pattern is still not complete then you may need to clean or replace the ink cartridges
(printheads). See the “Ink Cartridge Maintenance” section.
NOTE: For more information on imaging and print quality problems, please refer to the
“Troubleshooting” section.
Inkjet Cartridge Storage
Whenever the printer is not being used the cartridges must be removed, cleaned, and sealed.
Short-term Cartridge Storage: Less than 8 hours (< 2 hours in very dry environments).
•
The cartridges can be removed and placed in the
temporary “cartridge sealing station”, located on
the body of the printer.

The next time that the printer is used, the cartridge
nozzles will need to be cleaned and purged. See
“Cleaning the Inkjet Cartridge” for details.
Long-term Cartridge Storage: More than 8 hours (> 2 hours in very dry environments).

Clean the cartridge and place the cartridges in a
re-sealable container (i.e. Tupperware, Ziploc,
etc…). Place a damp sponge or cloth in the
container, below the cartridges, to maintain
humidity and prevent ink in the cartridge nozzles
from drying out.
Note: Do not allow the nozzle plate to make
contact with the sponge/cloth, or the ink will be
wicked from the cartridge.

When the cartridges are ready to be used again;
the cartridge body and contact area will need to be
dried and the nozzles will need to be purged.
CAUTION! Be sure the contact area of the cartridge is dry, before installing it into the
printer or damage to printer’s electronics will result.
Decap Time Note: The decap time (time it takes for unsealed cartridge nozzles to become
clogged), will vary greatly. Ink type, environment, prior cartridge maintenance, and cartridge
condition can greatly affect the decap time.
Inkjet Cartridge Disposal
Cartridge recycling is recommended. Many office supply stores accept used ink cartridges.
If there should be an ink spill, use soap and water to clean up any problem areas. Abrasive
soap works well to get the ink off of hands.
