After the second reset, the line characteristics change such that it bends at the pink
and green points (shown in the figure above right). In the case of the blue line in the
figure above left, without Multi-slope, the photoelectric conversion function is a
straight line to A’, and the camera is saturated with incident light. By curving the
linear response of the photoelectric conversion, this can be changed to line A.
Similarly, the green changes from B’ to B, and orange from C’ to C. In this case, the
light exposure of pink and red need no change.
By doing this, even with large amounts of incident light that would normally cause
saturation, it is possible to turn it into a signal without saturation, resulting in a wide
dynamic range image.
