3-22 Option Installation
Connecting Device Cables
The cables used for installing optional storage devices include the following:
diskette drive signal cable
IDE signal cables
internal SCSI cables
system power cables.
The system comes with two three-connector IDE signal cables; one connects to the primary
PCI/IDE connector and the other connects to the secondary PCI/IDE connector. Each IDE
cable supports two devices. The system also comes with a three-connector diskette drive
signal cable. The diskette drive cable supports two devices, one of which is the standard
diskette drive
Cable connector locations on the system board are shown in the following figure.
Figure 3-14 System Board Cable Connector Locations
Diskette Drive Signal Cable
A three-connector diskette drive signal cable comes attached to the system board and to the
standard 1.44-MB diskette drive.
A second diskette drive can be connected to the middle connector on the diskette drive
cable.
The colored edge of the cable corresponds to pin 1 on the cable connector. Align the
colored edge of the cable so it faces the power connector and connects with pin 1 (the
notched end) on the drive connector.
