Installing system board components
Installing BIOS chips
Usually the MAE486 and MBE486
boards are shipped with the BIOS ROM
already installed. If you must replace the ROM
chip, use these steps:
l
Verify that the BIOS to be installed is compati-
ble with the chip set and cache memory con-
troller installed on the system board.
l
Verify that the BIOS chip is a 28-pin, 27512
chip, with a 200 ns access time.
For the MAE486 verify that the BIOS chip
is marked
“EISA BIOS 486 MAE rev xx”
OR
For the MBE486 verify that the BIOS chip
is marked
“EISA BIOS 486 MBE rev
Locate the appropriate system board socket
where the chip will be installed:

For the MAE486 U7 (see Figure
OR
l
For the MBE486 U035 (see Figure
Make sure pin 1 on the chip corresponds to pin
1 of the socket by aligning the notch on the
chip with the silkscreened notch on the system
board. Make sure the chip faces the front of the
chassis (away from the IU connector). Align
the pins with the socket hole, then push the
chip down carefully until the pins are seated
securely in the socket. Be careful not to bend
any of the pins.
