The EasyGlider / Electric can also be operated using a
transmitter such as the Ranger III, as supplied with the EasyStar
or SpaceScooter RTF.
In this case one receiver channel (right / left output) is used to
control both aileron servos and the rudder.

The MagicMixer #1 provides the correct signals to the servos
(and therefore the correct control surface travels). The
MagicMixer #1 features fixed travels, i.e. it is not possible to
adjust the degree to which the rudder follows the ailerons
(Combi-Switch), or the amount of aileron differential.

The term “aileron differential” means that the up-going aileron
moves through a larger angle than the down-going aileron.
The purpose of differential is to avoid the problem of adverse
yaw, i.e. the tendency for a model to yaw in the opposite direction
when a roll command is given.

If the MagicMixer #1 is used, the following transmitter channels
are required as a minimum:

, taking care to maintain correct polarity. You will see the

signal symbol on the label of the MagicMixer, indicating the
signal pin. The signal wire in the servo lead is generally yellow
or orange.

If necessary, set the correct direction of servo travel using the
servo reverse facility on your transmitter.

Y-lead for the aileron servos (optional) #  8  5030

The Y-lead permits the use of a simple four-channel radio control
transmitter without mixer functions.
The Y-lead is used to control both ailerons via one servo output
at the receiver.

Caution:

Electronic aileron differential is not possible with this

arrangement; differential must therefore be set mechanically:
remove the servo output lever from each aileron servo and re-
position them offset forward by two splines. You will need to
remove the servos from the wing for this. Slightly longer control
surface pushrods are now required. In this case the rudder is
controlled by a separate channel.

Fig. 22

Computer transmitters

If you use this type of transmitter, the MagicMixer #1 and the Y-
lead are not required.

The transmitter must feature the following facilities:
- Aileron differential
- Servo reverse (reversing the direction of servo travel)
- Servo travel adjustment
- Optional: Combi-Switch (coupled aileron and rudder)

Installing the receiving system in the electric-powered version

The receiver and flight battery can now be installed. Please see
the introduction to these instructions for our recommended
components and Order Numbers.

Fig. 11 + 12

The motor supplied in the kit features internal suppressors,
and these are adequate if you are using the factory-fitted
MULTIcont X-16 speed controller, # 7 2271.
If you prefer to use a different controller, it is in your own interests
to fit additional suppression measures to the electric motor. A
suitable suppressor set is available under # 8 5020. Solder
one 47 nF capacitor between one motor terminal and the motor
can, and a second one between the other terminal and the can.
The third 47 nF capacitor should be soldered across the
terminals to form a bridge.

Cut down the tongues of the canopy latch in the fuselage to a
length of about 3 mm using a pair of scissors.

Fig. 13

The flight battery fits under the wing in the compartment aft of
the receiver. The battery should be a tight fit in the compartment,
in which case it does not need to be secured separately. If it is
a loose fit, pack extra foam round it.
Connect all the components of the radio control system for
testing, referring to the instructions supplied with the radio
control system.
Attach the propeller blades

14

to the hub using one spacer

sleeve and one screw each. Tighten the screws fully, but do not
over-tighten them (take great care not to strip the threads - it is
very easily done).

Fig. 14

Don’t connect the battery to the speed controller until you
have switched your transmitter on and checked that the
throttle control is set to “OFF”.

Switch on the transmitter, connect the flight battery to the
controller in the model, and the controller to the receiver. The
controller features what is known as a BEC circuit (receiver
power supply from the flight battery). This means that a separa-
te battery for the receiving system is not required.

Now switch on the motor briefly from the transmitter, and check
the direction of rotation of the propeller (hold the model firmly
and remove all loose, lightweight items from the area behind
the model before you do this).

Caution: even with small motors and propellers the electric
power system is capable of inflicting serious injury!

Installing the receiving system in the glider version

In addition to the receiver the glider version needs to be fitted
with a switch harness and receiver battery. Please see the
introduction to these instructions for our recommended
components and Order Numbers.
The receiver switch fits in a well in the right-hand fuselage shell
forward of the servos. You may need to adjust the well to fit your
switch unit. Alternatively you can omit the switch harness; in
this case the battery lead is connected directly to the receiver to
switch the system on. In this case the receiver battery must be
fitted with a connector matching the receiver socket. Stick hook-
and-loop tape to the receiver battery and the bottom of the
fuselage, and press the battery into place as far forward as
possible.
Connect all the components of the radio control system for
testing, referring to the instructions supplied with the radio
control system.
