The main oil flow is directed through the five engine oil filters (5) directly to the lubrication points in the en-
gine and to the main oil gallery.

The following components / assemblies are supplied directly:

• HP fuel pump (14)
• Vibration damper (15)
• Crankshaft support bearing, free end (16)
• Conrods (20)
• Piston cooling nozzles (25)

Supplied via the main oil gallery:
• Crankshaft main bearings (17)
• Camshaft thrust bearings (18)
• Cylinder head (19)
• Camshaft bearings (24)
• Crankshaft support bearing, driving end (22)
• Crankshaft thrust bearings (21)
• Exhaust turbocharger bearings (1)

The lube oil pump (11) is a gear pump. It is driven by the crankshaft via an idler gear. A breather valve (13)
protects the pump against excessive oil pressure.

The pressure limiting valve (12) provides oil-pressure control independent of engine speed.

Pressure maintaining valves (2) supply the spray nozzles for piston cooling only after a minimum oil pressure.
They thus ensure lubrication of the engine at lower speeds.
