and port configuration, as follows:

About Interface Configuration

The main objective of a router is to relay packets from one data

link to another. To achieve this goal, the characteristics of the

interfaces through which the packets are received and sent must

be clearly defined. These characteristics include, but are not

limited to, the address of the interfaces, list of ports, media-type,

data encapsulation method and bandwidth. As a result, many

features are enabled on a per-interface basis. The interface

configuration mode contains commands that modify the

operation of an Ethernet or serial port.
