PPC/PMC-8260/DS1
Installation
Be sure to mount only allowed combinations of PPC/PMC-8260/DS1 variants
(the “Allowed Product Combinations” section page 2-8). Otherwise damage to
PMC module or the carrier board may occur.
The PPC/PMC-8260/DS1 is not certified for the use with TNV-1 circuits
(Telecommunication Network Voltage-1 circuits). Do not connect E1/T1/J1
lines directly to the PPC/PMC-8260/DS1. Use a Digital Service Unit/Control
Service Unit (DSU/CSU) to eliminate overvoltages.
Electrostatic discharge and incorrect module installation and removal can
damage circuits or shorten their life. Therefore:
•
Before installing or removing the PMC module, read the “Installation”
chapter and the Installation Guide of the carrier board under consider-
ation.
•
Before installing the PMC module on or removing it from a carrier board
not supporting hot swap, proceed as follows:
– Check all installed boards for steps that you have to take before turn-
ing off the power.
– Take those steps.
– Finally turn off the power.

Before touching modules or electronic components, make sure that you are
working in an ESD-safe environment.
•
The 3.3V and 5V power supplies of the PMC module carrier board must
ramp up simultaneously in about max. 20 msec. Otherwise, the PMC mod-
ule may be damaged.
•
The power supply circuits on VME bus carrier boards may be overloaded
if more than one PPC/PMC-8260/DS1 is assembled. This results in perma-
nent damage to the carrier board. Therefore, make sure that the VMEbus
carrier board’s +3.3 Volt supply supports the power requirements as
described in the “Power Requirements” section page 2-5.

The PMC specification (P1386.1) specifies a maximum total power con-
sumption of 7.5W per single PMC module. The PPC/PMC-8260/DS1 in its
standard configuration may exceed this value. Therefore, it is neccessary
to synchronize the carrier board’s power supply with the PPC/PMC-
8260/DS1 power requirements. Due to the high power dissipation forced
air cooling is necessary (see also forced airflow environmental requirement
on page 2-5).
