Follow these steps to correctly update the firmware on a P420m drive:

1. Back up all data on the drive to alternate media.
2. Use RSSDM to update the firmware on the drive.
3. Power cycle the system to enable the new firmware.
4. Immediately perform a SECURE ERASE operation on the drive before running any

IO.

Note:

The SECURE ERASE operation is not required if:

• The existing firmware and the upgrade version are both earlier than version

208.11.

• The existing firmware is at least version 208.11 and the upgrade is later than ver-

sion 208.11.

5. After the SECURE ERASE operation completes successfully, the drive is ready for

use.
