Legal requirements for Ger-
many

Note:
There is no driving licence required
for
SCOOTER with a maximum
speed of up to 15 km/h.
☞
The minimum age for operation of
a SCOOTER is 15 years. An exemp-
tion certifi cate for younger persons
can be applied for at the relevant
administrative authority.
☞
Public passages such as sidewalks
may be driven on at fair walking
speed.
☞
SCOOTER from 6 km/h must be fi t
with a rear marking plate accord-
ing to ECE-R69 on the rear of the
back support.
SCOOTER up to 6 km/h
A liability insurance is only required
for a
SCOOTER over 6 km/h, but gen-
erally recommendable.
☞
Electronic vehicles such as SCOOT-
ERS, wheelchairs, auxiliary drives,
electro-mobiles that achieve a
maximum speed of no more than
6 km/h are included in the private
liability insurance at no extra cost.
For this you only need to present
a formless application to your re-
sponsible insurance.
SCOOTER more then 6 km/h
Opposed to the model with a maxi-
mum speed of up to 6 km/h, the fol-
lowing is required of the model with
a maximum speed of up to 15 km/h
by the Straßenverkehrszulassungsor-
dnung (StVZO = German road traffi c
permit regulations):

The operating permit of the
SCOOTER from the local vehicle
admission offi ce.

The operating licence always has
to be carried along while partici-
pating in public traffi c.
