N2 Dialer Module—N2 Dialer Module (NDM) 35
This commissioning procedure requires that the local NDM has been downloaded with a
valid local configuration file using HVAC PRO for Windows Release 5.10 (or later) and
includes a phone number for dialing out to the remote NDM.
1.
For Companion, make sure the NDM’s hardware and software points are defined in
the facility management system data base. See Appendix B: Using Companion with
an NDM for information on mapping points to Companion.
For Metasys, the NDM must be defined as a hardware object.
2.
Set the address on the local NDM to match that defined in the network data base.
3.
Apply power to the NDM. Do not connect the modem or the N2 Bus connections at
this time. Verify the power up sequence by noting the two diagnostic LEDs:
Transmit and Receive on the NDM. Refer to Table 7 under Startup for proper LED
sequence.
4.
Connect the modem to the local NDM and apply power to the modem. The NDM
should immediately send the setup strings to the modem. Verify that these setup
strings are being sent to the modem by noting that Send (SD) and Receive (RD) data
lights on the modem flash. Modem strings are sent in approximately 45 seconds.
After the setup strings are sent, the following LEDs should be ON at the modem.
HS - High Speed
AA - Auto answer
TR - Terminal Ready MR - Modem Ready
All other modem LEDs should be off until communication is started.
5.
Connect the local NDM to the N2 Bus that is connected to the facility management
system.

Verify that the NDM comes online. You can verify communications to the NDM by
noting the flashing transmit and receive LEDs. The receive LEDs flash more than
the transmit.

a valid remote configuration file using HVAC PRO for Windows Release 5.10 (or later)
and includes a phone number for dialing in to the local NDM on a facility management
system.

Make sure the remote NDM hardware is defined in the facility management system
data base. It is not necessary to map software points from the remote NDM.
2.
Set the address on the remote NDM to match that defined in the network data base.
3.
Ensure there are no conflicting N2 addresses between any remote N2 devices, and
local dialer or controllers. N2 devices should not have address 0.
4.
Apply power to the NDM. Do not connect the modem or the N2 Bus connections at
this time. Verify the power up sequence by noting the NDM’s two diagnostic LEDs:
Transmit and Receive. Refer to
Table 7 under Startup for proper LED sequence.
After the startup diagnostics, both LEDs are off.
5.
Connect the modem to the remote NDM and apply power to the modem. The NDM
should immediately send the modem setup strings to the modem. Verify that the
setup strings are being sent to the modem by noting flashing Send (SD) and Receive
(RD) data lights on the modem. Modem strings are sent in approximately every
45 seconds. After the setup strings are sent, the following LEDs should be ON at
the modem.

After the setup strings are sent to the modem, the NDM automatically initiates a dial
in to the first phone number on the list. This should be the phone number of the
facility management system. Verify that the dial in to that number occurs. The
NDM automatically dials any time the modem or the NDM powers up. The NDM
resets if the modem is disconnected or powered off.
7.
Verify that the remote NDM comes online. You can verify communications to the
NDM by noting the flashing transmit and receive LEDs. The receive LEDs flash
