APPENDIX A - TROUBLESHOOTING
INCUBATOR TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem
Solution
Incubator never warms up to temperature.
The incubator must be used in an environment between
18°C and 37°C, and will function best away from drafts.
Relocate the incubator to the proper environment.
Incubator does not recognize inserted BI.
Only Smart-Read EZTest biological indicators will work in
the Smart-Well incubator. If a Smart-Read BI is not
recognized by an incubation cavity, rotate the BI 90
degrees. If the Smart-Read BI is still not recognized, try
placing the BI into a different incubation cavity.
Touch-screen is unresponsive (frozen).
Unplug the incubator from the power supply for five
seconds, then restore power. The incubator will recover
and continue any test in progress. A power failure
acknowledgement will be printed.
Date and Time buttons are not active
Ensure that there is not an active incubation cycle. The
incubator will not allow the date or time to be changed
while a test is in progress.
Incubator result is Positive for growth but BI
is visually Negative
“Over-cooking” the BI can alter the color of the BI
Indicator solution and result in the unit seeing fluid as
Positive for color change.
Incubator result is Negative for growth but
BI is visually Positive
Perform the visual verification immediately at the end of
the full incubation cycle.
The Incubator remains heated after the Incubation Time
has expired – a BI that met the requirements for Negative
growth at the expiration of the Incubation Time will
continue to incubate and growth may occur after the end
of the set incubation cycle.
