Function of the automatic child seat recogni‐
tion on the front passenger seat (vehicles
with AMG sport bucket seats)

WARNING Risk of injury or death due to
malfunctioning of the automatic child
seat recognition
Electronic devices on the front passenger
seat may impair the function of the auto‐
matic child seat recognition, for example:
R
notebook
R
mobile phone
R
transponder card, such as ski pass or
access pass
The front passenger front airbag could
deploy unintentionally or not function as
intended in the event of an accident.

Do not place any of the devices men‐
tioned above or similar devices on the
front passenger seat.
#
Ensure, both before and during the jour‐
ney, that the status of the front
passenger airbag is correct.

WARNING Risk of injury or death due to
removal of a seat cushion
If you remove a seat cushion, automatic child
seat recognition on the front passenger seat
will no longer function.
Therefore, the front passenger front airbag
will deploy during an accident even if a spe‐
cial rearward-facing child restraint system is
fitted.

Never remove a seat cushion.
The sensor system for the automatic child seat
recognition on the front passenger seat detects
whether a special Mercedes-Benz child restraint
system with transponders for the automatic
child seat recognition has been fitted. The
PASSENGER AIR BAG ON and PASSENGER AIR
BAG OFF indicator lamps light up simultaneously
for approximately six seconds when the ignition
is switched on. The system carries out a self-
test.
If the front passenger front airbag is disabled by
the automatic child seat recognition, the follow‐
ing remain enabled on the front passenger side:

the side impact airbag
R
the window airbag
R
the seat belt tensioner
& WARNING Risk of injury or fatal injury
when using a child restraint system while
the front passenger airbag is enabled
If you secure a child in a child restraint sys‐
tem on the front passenger seat and the
PASSENGER AIR BAG ON indicator lamp is lit,
the front passenger airbag can deploy in the
event of an accident.
The child could be struck by the airbag.

In this case, always ensure that the
front passenger airbag is disabled. The
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator
lamp must be lit.
NEVER use a rearward-facing child restraint
system on a seat with an ENABLED FRONT
