NOTE Damage to the tailgate caused by

obstacles above the vehicle

The tailgate swings rearwards and upwards

when it is opened.

Make sure that there is sufficient space

behind and above the tailgate.

To open the tailgate, the following options

are available:

Pull remote opening switch

for the tail‐

gate.

Press and hold the

button on the

SmartKey.

Vehicles with HANDS-FREE ACCESS: Move

your foot below the bumper (

→

page 69).

If the tailgate is unlocked, pull the tailgate

handle and release it again immediately.

For a tailgate stopped in an intermediate

position, pull it upwards and release it as

soon as it starts to open.

Vehicles with folding bench seat: Pull

switch

for the tailgate twice.

The tailgate is unlocked.
