Towing and Recovery | Actros, Antos (Model 963), Arocs (Model 964)
Ë
When towing air-sprung vehicles, check the driving
level and correct it if necessary. If the compressed
air system cannot be filled, mechanically release the
spring brake cylinders, see page 41. If the vehicle is
raised at the rear for towing and is towed backwards,
the steering wheel must be immobilized, see page 66.
Permissible maximum speed: Refer to the table of
towing loads for the towing/recovery vehicle.
Ë
When the engine is not running, the oil pump in the
transmission is inoperative. If you tow the vehicle
on one or more drive axles with the propeller shaft
installed, the transmission could be damaged.
Vehicles with hydraulic auxiliary drive
Ë
When towing vehicles with hydraulic auxiliary drive,
observe the following:
If the hydraulic auxiliary drive is leaking:

Remove propeller shaft.
M
Tow the vehicle with the front axle raised.
Vehicleswithsteeredleading/trailingaxle
Ë
Vehicles with steered leading/ trailing axles should
only be pushed backwards when the trailing axle is
raised and not touching the ground. Otherwise you
could damage the frame of the vehicle.
