Turbo retarder coupling
Vehicles with turbo retarder coupling can be identified by
the oil/water heat exchanger
:
in the wheel well on the
right side. The turbo retarder coupling enables the vehicle to
start off with the clutch open without wear. After moving off,
the clutch is closed automatically. When the turbo retarder
coupling is active, the indicator lamp
X
in the instrument
cluster is on.
Driving with the turbo retarder coupling in clutch mode cau-
ses the oil temperature to rise. If the oil temperature is ex-
cessively high, an event window is displayed and an acoustic
warning sounds.
M
Shift to a lower gear so that the oil temperature drops.
If the event window and the acoustic warning do not stop:
M
Apply parking brake.
M
Shift transmission to neutral.
M
Run engine at about 1200 rpm for about 1 minute.
Movingoffwiththeclutch
In the event of electrical or pneumatic faults in the turbo
retarder coupling, the vehicle can also be moved using the
clutch with rocking mode.
M
Select the lowest gear.
M
Activate rocking mode:
Press top of button
i
. When
the indicator lamp in the button lights up, the rocking
function is switched on.
Driving time is limited to five minutes because optimum lubri
-
cation may not be guaranteed depending on the fault in the
turbo retarder coupling.
