Safety instructions
Operational safety
The hard drive is not intended for use by people (including children) with reduced
physical, sensory or mental abilities or for those without experience and/or knowl-
edge, unless they are supervised by a person responsible for their safety or they have
been instructed by that person in its use. Children should be supervised to ensure they
do not play with the hard drive.
General
• Keep the device at a distance of at least one metre from high frequency or magnet-
ic interference sources (televisions, loudspeaker boxes, mobile telephones, etc.) to
avoid malfunctions and data loss.
• Hard drives are extremely susceptible to knocks. Never drop the drive or subject it
to knocks or vibrations, as this can irrevocably ruin the hard drive and the data on
it. Bear this in mind particularly when transporting the hard drive. We accept no li-
ability for damage of this kind.
• The hard drive must not be exposed to water droplets or spray. Do not place ob-
jects that are filled with fluid (such as vases) on or next to the hard drive. The con-
tainer may tip over and the liquid may impair the electrical safety of the device.
• After transporting the device, wait until it has reached room temperature before
switching it on. Major fluctuations in temperature or humidity can lead to conden-
sation which could cause an electrical short-circuit.
• To avoid malfunction, keep your hard drive and all connected devices away from
moisture and avoid placing them in a dusty area, near sources of heat or in direct
sunlight.
• Set up and operate all components on a stable, level and vibration-free surface to
avoid damage.
• Position the cable so that it cannot be stepped on or tripped over.
• Do not place any objects on the cable to avoid damaging it.
• The slots and openings on the hard drive are for ventilation purposes. Do not cover
these openings as this could cause the product to overheat.
• Do not insert anything into the hard drive through the slots and openings. This
could result in an electrical short-circuit or even a fire.
• The hard drive takes in energy during operation and will become very warm. If you
are not using the hard drive, remove it from the PC.
• Never open the hard drive housing. This would invalidate the warranty and inevita-
bly render the hard drive unusable.
