playing. To avoid the muting of the audio part of the sound
card, put a check mark in the Lock check box before the MIDI
file begins to play
The Lock feature has distinct benefits, however, there are also
2 drawbacks:
First, the Lock feature uses 2 voices of polyphony for the
audio part, leaving only 30 voices for the MIDI part. Second,
the Lock feature locks the Variation effect and prevents the
MIDI file from changing it.
If an XG MIDI file uses a Variation effect and the Lock On is
active, the MIDI file will play back using the Variation effect
which was active when the lock was put on. This may not be
the right Variation effect and this may cause the XG MIDI file
to sound strange.
Therefore, when listening to an XG MIDI file, you should
“unlock” the Digital Effects to ensure that you hear everything
that the composer intended. When the MIDI file has finished
playing, reset the Digital Effects control to enable the audio of
the 3D-XG if you want to listen to a Wave file, the Mic or an
audio CD.
Dedicated Karaoke players (e.g. Karaku) use special XG
MIDI files that don’t include the Variation effect. In these
situations, the Karaoke player will ensure that the Variation
effect is set to insertion mode and applied on the A/D Part
(Microphone) only.
Use the lock feature when you want to put the 3D-XG in
Karaoke mode with an XG MIDI file which does not use any
Variation effects or with any GM or GS file so that you can
sing along with the music and put effects on your voice.
Default
The Default button is used to bring back the Audiotrix 3D-XG
Mixer to the settings shown in the DEFAULT.MIX preset file.
