Attaching Modules to the Computer

This section describes how to attach a DT9857 or DT9857E module to the host computer.

Note:

Most computers have several USB ports that allow direct connection to USB devices.

If your application requires more DT9857 or DT9857E modules than you have USB ports for,
you can expand the number of USB devices attached to a single USB port by using expansion
hubs. For more information, refer to

.

You can unplug a module, then plug it in again, if you wish, without causing damage. This
process is called hot-swapping. Your application may take a few seconds to recognize a
module once it is plugged back in.

You must install the device driver for your module before connecting the module(s) to the
host computer. Run the installation program on your Data Acquisition OMNI CD to install the
device driver and other software for the module.

Connecting Directly to the USB Ports

To connect a DT9857 or DT9857E module directly to a USB port on your computer, do the
following:

1.

Make sure that you have attached an external power supply to the module.

2.

Attach one end of the USB cable (EP365) to the USB port on the module, as shown in

. The DT9857 and DT9857E modules support an optional locking USB cable if

desired. You can purchase this cable separately from vendors such as Newnex Technology
Corporation (part number UHRB-B00A-U60).

Connect the USB cable to the module and to the host computer.

The DT9857 and DT9857E supports an optional locking USB cable if

desired.
