Air Lock

Air lock is the phenomenon when air gets sucked into the pumping chamber and prevents water
from discharging out of the pump volute. This normally occurs during refilling of water into the
chiller unit during maintenance service. This can also occur when there are air leaks along the
suction pipe causing air entrainment. In open systems, vortexing of the water can also cause air
to be drawn into the pump.

When this happens, we need to release the air from the pump. This can be done by opening the
air bleed hole on the pump housing. While the pump is running, slowly open this hole and allow
the air to release out. Do this until water comes out of the hole and then close it back.
