Chapter 12.
Effect macros
In the previous 2 chapters, you learned about the effect generator. Combining all those basic shapes to
obtain an attractive result can be tedious. And configuring all the effect parameters each time you are
creating a new scene is very time-consuming.
This chapter covers Xciter’s effect macros. These effect macros are like presets, not for channels but for
the effect parameters. If you reuse the same type of effect a lot, you can store it as a macro and recall it
instantly when you need it. This saves you from doing the following tasks:
•
Assign effect generators
•
Select shapes
•
Adjust the parameters
•
Fine-tuning
Xciter comes with some effect macros preloaded. If you lose them, you can still restore them by uploading
the factory default backup file.
12.1
Create an effect macro
1.
Make the circle from Effect generator examples on page 7 to start with, but stay in the effects dialog instead
of pressing [ESC].
2.
There should be a sine wave running on PAN and TILT in generator 10.
3.
In the effect dialog, select all the channels you wish to store to the effect macro with the softkeys on the
right hand side. Selections are indicated with <.
4.
Hold [SHIFT] while you press [STORE].
Xciter prompts you to input a name for the macro.
5.
Use the arrow keys or top right jog wheel to move the cursor.
Use general purpose number keys 11-20 to input letters and 1-10 to input numbers (10 being the 0).
Use [CLEAR] and [LOAD] to delete characters and insert blanks respectively.
6.
Press [ENT] to store the macro, [ESC] to cancel.
12.2
Recall an effect macro
1.
Press {Eff.macro} in the advanced menu of the scene/sequence editor.
Xciter presents the entire list of effect macros.
2.
Use the top right jog wheel to scroll through the list.
Locate the effect macro you wish to recall.
3.
Press the softkey on the right side of the macro’s name to select it.
Note: The devices you select when you recall the macro do not have to be the same ones you used to
create the macro. Xciter searches out the logical channels that correspond to ones stored in the macro.
12.3
Important to know
The effect macro only stores effect parameters on a channel basis. It does not store fixture information like
fixture order and fixture delay because the macros are fixture-independent.
Once you have recalled the macro, you can still do all the fine-tuning by pressing {Effects} in the advanced
menu of the scene/sequence editor. Example: You can re-apply fixture delay because the effect macro
does not store that information.
