LDU
Description
Efficiency Level
Slit lamp
•
This laser system is integrated with
CSO SL950 slit lamp module and
the multi-wavelengths laser beam is
delivered to the patient’s eye by a
high-speed galvanometer scanner.
•
The operator would have to select
the scanning pattern before starting
the treatment.
•
Single spot: 50 to 5000 µm.
•
Multi-spot: 100 to 400 µm.
Least efficient LDU due to the energy
losses that occur in the:
•
Spot size adjustment zoom
system.
•
Aperture of laser beam when
small spot sizes are selected.
LIO
The laser beam is delivered through a
20D or 28D contact lens that is held by
the operator, assisting in positioning the
laser beam on the treatment site and
setting the desired spot size. The
contact lens also helps to hold the eye
open and still during the procedure.
More efficient than the slit lamp, but
less efficient than the endoprobe due
the energy losses that occur through
the:
•
Collimating system.
•
Mirror.
•
Focusing lens.
Endoprobe
•
The operator is required to use an
operating microscope to view the
patient’s eye.
•
These endoprobes are inserted into
the eye and used in very close
proximity to the treatment site
(almost in contact).
•
The endoprobes are sterile devise
intended for direct patient contact
and are purchased items with a
sterility guarantee.
Most efficient LDU as the only energy
losses occur in two places:
•
The coupling of the laser beam
into the fiber.
•
Through the fiber itself.
This laser system console generates a controlled laser beam of 532/577/810 nm wavelength light
that is focused into a small spot to be delivered into an optical fiber that is connected to one of
the LDUs. The diameters of the optical fiber for the slit lamp and LIO LDUs are tabulated below:
No.

It is important to make sure the fiber jacket is not damaged as this may create extra losses and
may allow the laser beam to be transmitted at the damaged spot along the fiber. The fiber should
be kept off the floor and away from sharp edges.
The system operation is described below:
1.
Activate the system by connecting the laser system and LCD screen to the main power outlet.
2.
Turn the LCD screen ON by pressing the power switch located at the bottom of the screen.
The system software will boot up as shown in Figure 6 below.
