Multi-Train System
This model has a "D" gearbox and
decoder interface. It can be equip-
ped with a LGB Multi-Train
System Decoder (55020) using a
Decoder Interface Cable (55026).
When the decoder is installed, the
Train Mouse loco function button
will control multiple functions,
depending on the number of times
the button is pushed. Push the
button in intervals of 0.6 to 1.0
second.
Press 1x: Whistle
Press 2x: Bell
Press 3x: Smoke generator on/off
Press 4x: Sound on/off
Press 5x: second whistle signal

Press 6x: Brake sound
Press 7x: Coal shoveling sound
Press 8x: Air pump
For more information, contact your
authorized LGB retailer or an LGB
service station (see Factory Ser-
vice
). We recommend factory
installation of decoders (see Fac-
tory Service
).
Lighting
This model has automatic directio-
nal lanterns on the front and the
rear of the loco. The cab is also
illuminated. A 5-volt voltage stabi-
lization circuit provides constant
power to the lights, even when the
loco is moving slowly.
This model has a "flat" multi-pur-
pose socket, with a removable
cover, on the rear of the loco. This
socket can be used to provide
track power to cars with lighting
and sound electronics. To remove
the cover of the socket, pull it
straight out. If the cover is tight,
gently use a small tool, like a
small straight screwdriver, to pry it
out. (Do not pull out the rectangu-
lar outer housing.)
If your cars have the older, “round”
lighting connectors, use the Light
Socket Adapter (68334).
Smoke Generator
This model has a smoke genera-
tor in the smokestack. A small
supply of LGB Smoke and Clea-
ning Fluid is also included with
this model. For best operation, fill
the generator halfway with fluid. If

the generator is overfilled, it will
not convert the fluid into smoke.
Attention! Only use LGB Smoke
and Cleaning Fluid (50010) in the
smoke generator. Other fluids may
damage your locomotive.
Attention! Never touch the heating
element in the center of the smoke
generator. It is fragile.
Sound
This model features a digital elec-
tronic sound system. All of the
sounds are actual recordings. The
sounds were converted from ana-
log to digital and then stored as
data. When you operate your loco,
the data is converted back into
sounds.
Controls: The sound can be swit-
ched on and off using the power
control switch (see Operating
Modes).
The sound level can be adjusted
by turning the volume control
under the water tank cover on the
rear of the loco (Fig. 3).
Bell and whistle: Two short
blasts of the whistle sound auto-
matically when the locomotive is
started.
The bell and whistle can also be
triggered by the LGB Sound
Magnet (17050) included with this
model. The 17050 snaps between
the ties of most LGB track sec-
tions.
The magnet in the 17050 is moun-
ted under the LGB logo molded
into the case. If the contact is
installed with the logo on one side
of the track, it will trigger the whist-
le as the model passes. If the
contact is installed with the logo
on the other side, it will trigger the
bell.
Brake: Triggering the “squealing”
brake sounds requires a skilled
hand on the speed control. With
the 50061/50070 transformer/
control combination, start the
speed control at 2.0 and slowly
turn the control to 1.0 over a peri-
od of about 2 seconds. With the
Jumbo power pack, start the
speed control at 2.5 and slowly
turn the control to 1.5 over a peri-
od of about 2 seconds. (This is
simple with a Jumbo power pack,
which has automatic deceleration
control.)
Standing sounds: Approximately
five seconds after the model
stops, the air pump sounds four
blasts. After a short pause, you
hear the air pump again along
with the sounds of leaking boiler
fittings. If a low voltage (approx.
