Configuring the network interface
There are four basic steps to configuring the network address and default encoding
modes
1.
Configure the terminal program to communicate with the Leivio RS232
2.
Activate the serial port link between the User PC and the device
3.
Program the defaults
4.
Save the defaults and exit.
Needed information
Before you begin this process you will need to know the following;
•
IP address encoder device will have
•
Gateway IP address
•
Subnet address
•
DNS address used
Alternatively, using DHCP you can have the network assign addressing and network
information to the unit.
You will also need a PC with a serial port interface (and serial Cable with gender
changer on one side
or
a female to female serial cable) and a terminal program to
communicate directly with the base level program on the unit.
We will illustrate with a Microsoft® Windows XP Pro® program, “HyperTerminal”
included with all Microsoft OS programs, but the many Linux and Apple® based
terminal programs are also quite serviceable for this function.
The serial port connection is used to configure the device default settings and values
and should NOT be used regularly to control the operation of the unit. The built-in web
interface will handle routine administrative functions on a daily basis, the serial port
only being used to define values you normally don’t want changed.
