41. Reposition the guide tapes. Make sure the
guide tapes go under the doffer roll, un-
der the compression roll, behind the guide
tape bar, over the compression roll, and
forward through the red finger guard.
42. Align and overlap the ends of the first re-
placement guide tape. Be sure the trailing
edge of the guide tape is on top and the
leading edge is on the bottom (Figure 7-
9). Staple the ends together, placing a
staple near each end of the tape with one
to three additional staples spaced evenly
between. Repeat this process for the re-
maining guide tapes.
43. Place the compression roll spring-loaded
handles back into their bracket slots in
each end frame.
44. Close and secure the end frame doors.

45. Test the red safety finger guard to verify
the unit comes to a complete stop when
the red safety finger guard is pushed.
46. The ironing section must be waxed be-
fore resuming operation. For more infor-
mation within this manual, go back to the
OPERATING GUIDELINES chapter,
Daily Operating Procedures section,
Waxing procedure .
7.7 Drive Chain
The drive chain in the right end frame powers
the various rolls, idlers, and gears. The tension on
the drive chain is controlled by a nonadjustable
spring (Figure 7-28, A). Over time, the spring may
stretch and needs to be replaced.
1. Turn power OFF at the main disconnect
switch.
2. Locate the main drive chain in the right end
frame. Check the drive chain for exces-
sive movement. There should be very little
free play in the chain. If there is, perform
Steps 3 to 6 to replace the nonadjustable
spring.
3. Adjust the stop bolt on the idler arm (Fig-
ure 7-28, B) to release tension on the chain.
4. Locate the clips holding the ends of the chain
together. Use a chain puller to relieve ten-
sion at the site of the clips and remove them.
Remove the chain. This will relieve the ten-
sion on the nonadjustable spring.
5. Locate the nonadjustable spring and replace
it with a new spring (Figure 7-28, A).
6. Install the drive chain, connect it with the
removed clips, and readjust the bolt on the
idler arm. Close right end frame door.
Perform only when the unit is OFF
(with power disconnected) and COOL.
