2.5 Configuration Files

Once you have configured one SCS, you can create a

configuration file

from those settings and download

that file to other devices. A configuration file is a series of commands used to automatically configure an
SCS. By using a configuration file, you save time that would otherwise be spent manually entering
commands. You can also update the configuration of many devices simultaneously, ensuring that each
device is configured the same. You can download a file manually, or configure the SCS to automatically
download a file each time it boots.

EZWebCon can automatically translate your current SCS configuration into a configuration file, which can
then be downloaded through EZWebCon to other devices. Refer to EZWebCon’s online help for more
information.

The rest of this section describes how to create and use configuration files at the command line.

2.5.1 Creating a Configuration File

To create a configuration file without EZWebCon, you must manually enter each command in the file.

On your host, enter a series of SCS commands in a text file, one command per line. Privileged
commands may be included; when the file is downloaded, the commands will be executed as if a
privileged user was logged into the SCS.

Capitalization of commands is optional.

If a string (such as a filename) is entered, it must be

enclosed with quotes in order to preserve the case.

To include a comment in the file, preface the

line with a pound (#) character. These lines will be ignored.

If

Define Server

commands are included in the file, they will not take effect until the SCS is rebooted.

Define Port

commands will not take effect until the specified ports are logged out.

Define Site

commands will take effect when the specified site is started.

The configuration file must not contain any initialization commands (such as

Initialize Server

).

Because the file is read when the SCS boots, a “reboot” command in the file would cause the SCS to
boot perpetually. You would then have to flush the NVR to correct the error.
