3: EMG 8500 Installation

EMG™ Edge Management Gateway User Guide

Warning:

The EMG must be powered off when installing or replacing the modules.

Not powering off the device before changing the module will void the

manufacturer warranty.

Table 3-9 Available I/O Module Configurations for EMG 8500

Connecting to Network Ports

The EMG network ports, 10/100/1000 Base-T Ethernet, allow remote access to the attached

devices and the system administrative functions. Use a standard RJ45-terminated Category 5

cable to connect to the network port. A CAT5e or better cable is recommended for use with a 1000

Base-T Ethernet connection.

Note:

One possible use for the two Ethernet ports is to have one port on a private,

secure network, and the other on an unsecured network.

Modular Expansion for Connectivity Module Bays

The EMG module configuration can be changed by adding or replacing connectivity modules in

the Connectivity module bays. Bay 1 and Bay 2 may be populated in any order and one or both

bays may be left empty. The bays are ordered from left to right: Bay 1 is the slot on the left side of

the back panel and Bay 2 is the slot to the right of Bay 1. See

Figure 3-10

Any changes to the connectivity modules must be done while the EMG unit is powered off.
