The Media Server can be configured in a number
of ways, allowing you to integrate it into
virtually any vessel network environment.
a.
Identify the configuration that will meet the
vessel’s needs. The easiest way is to run
through the Configuration Wizard, accessible
from the Media Server’s Configure Network
page (click
see page 11) or on the web at
. The wizard will pick a
configuration based on your answers to a few
questions. Or you can refer to Figure 15 and
choose a configuration from “Network
Configuration Options” on page 23.
b.
Fill out the Installation Plan (provided in the
Welcome Kit) and have the vessel’s ICT
specialist/network administrator sign it.
NOTE:
Be sure to return the completed Installation
Plan to KVH (refer to the instructions on the form).
c.
Make sure any additional network devices,
such as WAPs (wireless access points), and
new Ethernet cabling gets installed
throughout the vessel as required to support
the chosen configuration. For example,
Router mode requires setting up an entirely
new, separate LAN. In addition, Ethernet
cables must be run to each TV that will be
equipped with a Set-top Box. Make sure you
get approval from the vessel’s master or
superintendent, and clearly identify who will
do the work.
To select the right mode, it is critical that you
thoroughly understand the vessel's network
and the customer's requirements. Consult
with the vessel's ICT specialist/network
administrator and review the vessel's
network diagram to plan the installation.
IMPORTANT!
If the Media Server is part of a Crew Welfare
Bundle with CREWlink Service, do not
change the network mode. The Media Server
comes preconfigured for CREWlink.
