Saving and Reloading Setups

Loading User Setups
To load a Setup back into the ExpressionMate, simply play it
from the storage device into the ExpressionMate. Make sure that
the storage deviceÕs MIDI Out is connected to the
ExpressionMateÕs Main MIDI In port. Also, check that the SysEx
ID is set to the same value as when the data was originally saved
(see ÒSYS EX IDÓ on page 82 for details on doing this). The
ExpressionMate will see the SysEx and load it, and will ßash an
LED while it is loading.
Keep in mind that the ExpressionMate will reload your SysEx
dumps as you saved them. It is not possible to load SU 13 into SU
2, nor is it possible to load a single User Scale or User Rhythm.
Also, if the currently active Setup is reloaded from SysEx, it is
necessary to temporarily select a different setup then return in
order for the received setup to be copied into working memory.
Here are some tips on keeping things organized:
Try to save individual or small groups of Setups as high Setup
Numbers, say from 50 to 60. This makes it a bit easier to just load
those few setups and copy them to the lower numbers and then
load another group. Breaking things up like this allows you
greater ßexibility if you want to reorganize later. Keep in mind
also that dumping all your Setups ensures that you have
everything you need and you can always break down your
setups into smaller blocks at a later time.
Write down your Scales and Rhythms. All of the Globals objects
are stored in one Þle. There is no way to load just one User
Rhythm or Scale. If you want to mix Rhythms or Scales from
separate dumps you will have to do it manually. It is also a good
idea to note what user scales or rhythms are being used by a
Setup. Say you load just the globals and then a group of Setups
that use a different group of Global Rhythms, then all your
arpeggiation will be looking at the right User Rhythm ID but that
ID would be set to play the wrong Rhythm. It is a good idea to
note what Setup is using what Rhythm, Scale or MMsg.
Once things are set the way you like, save the Setups along with
the Globals at that point. Keep in mind that many of the
ExpressionMateÕs user programmable items are Global Settings
that are accessed by your Setups.
