Extending the Guide Rail (Optional)

If the required installation depth of the guide rail exceeds the

standard length of 6m, the guide rail can be extended at the site

by welding on a length of square rail (100x100x5 to DIN 59411,

DIN 2395 or equivalent standard). The square rail can either be

provided by the customer or is included in the KSB scope of

supply. The rails are available in 3 and 6 metres.

Smooth raising and lowering of the unit with

pre--assembled guide claw requires that the

guide rail with weld--on extension be installed in a perfectly

vertical position!

The guide rail extension must be welded on in

compliance with the following standards:

weld preparation to

DIN EN ISO 9692

weld quality level C to

DIN EN ISO 5817

general tolerances for welded

constructions B/F

DIN EN ISO 13920

Commissioning

Prior to the commissioning of the unit ensure

that the minimum liquid level above the

propeller blades is adhered to as stipulated in the operating

instructions of the mixer. If part of the propeller blades were to

protrude above the liquid level or the required minimum level

was not available (air--entraining vortices during operation), the

bearing assembly and the propeller would be subjected to a

non--uniform load. This would cause vibrations and shorten the

useful life of the shaft bearing, mechanical seal, propeller and

installation accessories.
Attach mixer, with guide claw mounted and in gravity--centre

position (cf. section 5.1), to the crane/lifting gear (either directly

to the hoisting rope -- section 5.3 or by means of the lifting hook

-- section 5.2) and place over the guide rail.

The pyramid--shaped sleeve (52--2) facilitates the sliding of the

mixer guide claw over the guide rail. Now lower the unit

including guide claw (732) along the guide rail into the tank until

the elastic rubber base on the motor housing bottoms on the

shell in the pump bracket. Prior to that, the plastic plates of the

claw touch down on the top edge of the pump bracket and the

unit tilts into the horizontal installation position. At this point, you

will notice that the rope slackens a little.
If a lifting hook is used at the end of the hoisting rope, lower the

rope a little bit further until the lifting hook comes off the lifting

clamp (571) and the rope can be pulled in. Note: In order to

choose the same unit position again, mark the rope at the railing

level.
Then fasten the power cable (section 8.1) and the lifting rope

(when using a transportable crane, see section 9.1).
For the instructions on commissioning please refer to the

operating manual of the mixer.
Prior to flooding the tank, check the unit’s direction of rotation.

Prior to beginning the direction of rotation check, ensure

that no one is in the tank near the unit, because the

rotating propeller blades constitute a potential hazard.
If the direction of rotation is correct, the fluid will flow from the

installation parts towards the propeller. The fluid flow must point

away from the propeller.

7.11

Extracting the Unit from the Tank

(e. g. for Maintenance Purposes)

No disassembly steps are required to raise the unit.

Prior to raising the unit, ensure that it has been

de--energised and cannot be inadvertently started. This

entails the separation of all electrical connections (including the

control line). Otherwise there would be a residual potential for

fatal injury!
Raise the unit out of the tank on the rope attached to the lifting

gear. To lower it, proceed in the opposite sequence.

8

Fastening the Power Supply Cable/

Hoisting Rope

8.1

Fastening and Guying the Power Supply

Cable

The power supply cable is fastened to the tank wall by means

of the cable support. This is to avoid the cable sliding back into

the tank and risking being caught by the propeller blades. By

means of a shackle, the cable support can be attached to an

appropriate point (railing/eyebolt). Prior to tightening the cable

support bolts, route the taut cable to the tank edge. Be careful

not to produce any fraying points along the cable. (Pad the rim

of the tank, if necessary).
If possible, the cable should be fastened to the tank edge at a

distance of 0.8 m from the side of the square rail, to prevent

chafing at the guide rail, which would damage the cable.

Electric cables routed with too much slack are

susceptible to damage caused either by constant

flow--induced motion or by the rotating propeller blades.
