sure to tighten your filter holder as much as possible.
WITH AN “E.S.E.” ESPRESSO POD
“ESE” for “Easy Serving Espresso” is a special espresso pod in rigid packaging (44 mm
diameter) of 7g of selected coffee, ground and compacted between two paper filters, specially
designed to make Italian style ristretto (tight) espressos.
This system allows immediate, simple, clean and comfortable use of your machine.
n
Fill the water tank and turn the machine on
(fig. 1, 2, 3 and 4)
. During the pre-heating phase, the
indicator light will flash.
n
If necessary, tear the excess pre-cut paper off the pod, put the E.S.E. pod in the filter holder, with the
red writing facing down, if any (fig.6).
n
Be sure to place all the paper inside the filter holder,
otherwise there might be leaks.
n
If the pod is not positioned correctly, the result in the cup will not be satisfactory.
n
Never use two pods together.
n
Then, follow steps of pictures 7 to 11 for preparing an espresso.
NB: Once you have obtained the sufficient amount of coffee, you can stop the flow at any time by pressing
the “1 cup” button
(fig.8)
.
WITH A SOfT POD
Your machine is also compatible with soft pods (usually 60 mm in diameter). Given that this
kind of pod is not specifically designed for espresso machines, you will get a less full-bodied
espresso than with an E.S.E. pod.
n
Fill the water tank and turn the machine on
(fig. 1, 2, 3 and 4)
. During the pre-heating phase, the
indicator light will flash.
n
Place a soft pod in the filter holder. Never use two pods together.
n
Be sure to place all the paper inside the filter holder,
otherwise there might be leaks. If the pod
is not positioned correctly, the result in the cup will not be satisfactory.
n
Then, follow steps of pictures 7 to 11.
NB: Once you have obtained the sufficient amount of coffee, you can stop the flow at any time by pressing
the “1 cup” button
(fig.8).
INDIVIDUAL PROGRAMMING Of THE VOLUME Of WATER DISPENSED
To change the pre-programmed amount of water (50 ml per cup is the factory setting), proceed as follows:
n
Fill the water tank and turn the machine on
(fig. 1, 2, 3 and 4).
n
Put a spoonful of coffee in the filter by using a measuring spoon or use an E.S.E. or soft pod.
n
Put the filter holder in place and lock it by turning it to the right as far as it will go, up to the stop
(fig. 7)
.
n
Place a cup under the filter holder.
n
Hold down the “1 cup” button (> 3 sec) until the “1 cup” light flashes quickly. The coffee flows out.
n
When the desired amount of espresso is obtained, press the “1 cup” button. This amount will be saved
automatically.
n
The next time when you press the “1 cup” button, you will obtain the most recently recorded amount.
Programming for 2 cups uses the same method, by pressing the “2 cups” button (> 3 sec).
6. STEAM FuNCTION
Steam is used to foam up milk (for example to make a cappuccino or a cafe latte).
To produce steam, the pump works by emitting an intermittent noise.
After using the steam function, the appliance cools automatically
by pumping cold water through
the heating system. During the pumping cycles, the excess steam in the heating system is released with
the hot water into the drip tray.
The steam and noise that accompany this phase are important
for cooling the appliance.
Warning:
during and after using the appliance, the metal parts of the steam nozzle can become very hot.
USING THE STEAM NOZZLE TO fROTH MILK
n
Fill the water tank and turn the machine on
(fig. 1, 2, 3 and 4)
.
n
After a few moments, the “on/off” light stops flashing and the “1 cup” and “2 cups” buttons light up.
n
Press the “steam pre-heating” button. During preheating, the “on/off” and “steam pre-heating” lights
flash and the “1 cup” and “2 cups” lights go off
(fig.12).
n
Move the steam nozzle towards the outside of the appliance.
n
Pour 60 to 100ml of cold fresh skimmed, semi skimmed or whole milk in a small container of about
1/2 litre and which can pass under the steam nozzle. The milk (uHT or pasteurised) and its container
should be quite cold.
n
As soon as the device reaches the required temperature, the “on/off” and “steam pre-heating” lights
stop flashing.
n
Place the steam nozzle in the milk and turn the knob to the “steam” position (fig. 13). The “steam pre-
heating” light will flash while steam is being produced.
n
For a good result, hold the nozzle towards the bottom of the container for about 25 seconds while the
milk heats (without however touching the bottom of the container). Then, bring the container down
gradually so that the nozzle moves up towards the surface (without the nozzle coming out of the milk)
(fig.14)
.
n
Once the froth has been formed, turn the knob to the “0” position
(fig.15)
. The appliance will now
automatically cool itself by launching 3 intermittent pumping cycles. Once this automatic operation is
complete, you can make a coffee.
Important:
To prevent the steam nozzle holes from being clogged, the milk foam must not reach the
black plastic upper part.
It is important to clean the steam nozzle after each use to prevent the milk from drying on the inside of
the nozzle. To do so:
n
Place the steam nozzle in a container with water and repeat the milk frothing operation for 30 seconds.
WARNING!
The steam nozzle will be hot!
USING THE KRUPS XS-6000 AUTO-CAPPUCCINO SET TO fROTH MILK (SOLD SEPARATELY)
The auto-cappuccino accessory makes it easier to make a cappuccino or a caffe latte. It is made up of a
special dual-position nozzle and a pipe.
n
Fill the water tank and turn the machine on
(fig. 1, 2, 3 and 4).
n
Attach the auto-cappuccino accessory firmly to the arm.
n
Place a cup under the self-cappuccino accessory.
n
Pour approximately 100 ml of fresh, cold, skimmed, semi-skimmed or whole milk in a container.
n
Immerse the pipe into the container, or directly into the carton of milk.
Note: Assemble the pipe firmly on the cappuccino accessory
(fig.24).
n
Turn the accessory’s switch to the “cappuccino” or “latte” position.
n
Press the “steam pre-heating” button. During preheating, the “on/off” and “steam pre-heating” lights
flash and the “1 cup” and “2 cups” lights go off
(fig.12).
n
As soon as the device reaches the required temperature, the “on/off” and “steam pre-heating” lights stop
flashing. Turn the knob to the “steam” position
(fig. 13)
. The milk is transferred from the container to the cup.
n
Once the froth has been formed, turn the knob to the “0” position
(fig.15).
The appliance will now
automatically cool itself by launching a number of intermittent pumping cycles. Once this automatic
operation is complete, you can make a coffee.
n
To clean the auto-cappuccino device, please repeat the milk foaming procedure by replacing the
100ml of milk with 100ml water.
n
For thorough cleaning of the cappuccino accessory, see the paragraph “Cleaning and Maintenance”.
