Kontron User's Guide
coolMonster/PM

Getting started

Getting started with the coolMONSTER/PM is very easy. For location of the connectors, see Appendix E:
Connector Layout. Take the following steps:

Turn off the power supply.

Connect the power supply to the coolMONSTER’s power supply connector or power
the board through a backplane.

Plug a memory module into the memory socket of the coolMONSTER/PM.

Connect the CRT monitor to the CRT interface or a LCD panel to the JILI interface by
using a corresponding adapter cable.

Plug the keyboard and the mouse to the PS/2 connectors or use USB keyboard or
mouse.

Connect the floppy drive cable to the coolMONSTER’s floppy interface. Attach the
floppy drive to the connector at the opposite end of the cable.

Connect the power supply to the floppy’s power connector.

Plug a hard-drive data cable to the coolMONSTER’s hard-disk interface.

Attach the hard disk to the connector at the opposite end of the cable.

If necessary, connect the power supply to the hard disk’s power connector.

If required, plug a ISA or PCI extension card to the appropriate slot in the backplane

Make sure all your connections have been made correctly.

Turn on power.

Enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 key during boot-up. Make all changes in the BIOS
setup. See the BIOS chapter of this manual for details.
