Manual Operation, Model
KCC Closed-Transition
Switches
Hazardous voltage.
Will cause severe injury or death.
Disconnect all power sources before
opening the enclosure.
DANGER
Servicing the transfer switch. Hazardous voltage can
cause severe injury or death.
Deenergize all power sources
before servicing. Turn off the main circuit breakers of all
transfer switch power sources and disable all generator sets
as follows: (1) Press the generator set off/reset button to shut
down the generator set. (2) Disconnect power to all battery
chargers. (3) Disconnect all battery cables, negative (--) leads
first. Reconnect negative (--) leads last when reconnecting the
battery cables after servicing. Follow these precautions to
prevent the starting of generator sets by an automatic transfer
switch, remote start/stop switch, or engine start command
from a remote computer. Before servicing any components
inside the enclosure: (1) Remove all jewelry. (2) Stand on a
dry, approved electrically insulated mat. (3) Test circuits with a
voltmeter to verify that they are deenergized.
NOTICE
Improper operator handle usage.
Use the manual operator
handle on the transfer switch for maintenance purposes only.
Return the transfer switch to the normal position. Remove the
manual operator handle, if used, and store it in the place
provided on the transfer switch when service is completed.
Note:
A manual operation handle is provided on the
transfer switch
for maintenance purposes only
. Do
not use the manual operation handle to transfer
the load with the power connected.
Use the manual operation handle to check the manual
operation before energizing the transfer switch. Check
the operation of both the Normal and Emergency
operators.
A contactor in normal and serviceable condition
operates smoothly without binding.
Do not place the
transfer switch into service if the contactor does not
operate
smoothly;
contact
an
authorized
distributor/dealer to service the contactor.
Closed-transition switches have two operators, Normal
and Emergency. Refer to Figure 2-9 for typical locations
of the Normal and Emergency operators.
Position indicators on the right side of the contactor
assembly show the positions of the operators. See
Figure 2-14.
2.7.1
Manual Operation Test Procedure,
150--1200 Amp Model KCC
Refer to Figure 2-14 through Figure 2-16 during the
following procedure.
Check the operation of both operators for both the
Normal and Emergency contacts in the following
sequence:
1. Disable the generator set to prevent starting and
disconnect all power sources before manually
operating the transfer switch.
2. Locate the maintenance handle stored on the left
side of the transfer switch frame.
3. Starting with the contactor in the Normal position,
use the maintenance handle to move the Normal
operator from the closed to the open position.
4. Move the Emergency operator from the open
position to the closed position.
5. Return the Emergency operator to the open
position and the Normal operator to the closed
position. Observe that the window indicators show
the upper shaft
O
(emergency open) and the lower
shaft
C
(normal closed). See Figure 2-14.
6. Remove the maintenance handle and store it in the
clips provided on the switch.
