SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE
The importance of maintenance cannot be overemphasized. Trained personnel shall regularly service
an Argonite system. The service engineer shall be proficient in the installation and commissioning of
Argonite systems as well as have detailed knowledge of the involved components.
At least annually, all systems shall be thoroughly inspected and tested for proper operation. The
inspection should include a verification of the integrity of the protected volume and assurance
that the protected volume has not increased or decreased. Changes in installed equipment
occupying additional or less volume than at the design/installation stage will affect the resulting
oxygen concentration after a discharge. A recalculation of the system may be required.
NFPA 2001 requires that if an Argonite cylinder shows a loss in pressure (adjusted for temperature)
of more than 5% (2750 PSI at 70°F or 190 bar at 21.1°C) it shall be refilled or replaced. The
cylinder pressure gauge reading shall be compared to a separate calibrated device at least
annually.
Refer to Chapter 8 for further service and maintenance procedures.
