Click ADD on the main RSS window to open the RSS Properties window: 
 

 

 
Use the properties window to set the Unique Resource Identifier (URI) (which is the path to the 
RSS feed normally just cut and pasted from the address bar or properties page of an RSS feed on 
the internet.  
 
In the example a URI for the Top Stories from Yahoo News is used. The Title is simply a user-
defined, descriptive title for the RSS feed. The title entered can be set to display at the beginning 
of the RSS crawl if the Crawl Title check box is selected under Variable Format. Additionally, in 
the Variable Format section the RSS Title and RSS Description can be selected to display or stay 
hidden and a character such as a vertical bar or dash can be set up to display as a separator 
between entries in the RSS feed.  
 
For example, if the Title Local News is set to display, Crawl Title contains a colon as the 
separator, and the RSS Title was also set to display with a vertical bar as a separator the crawl 
may appear as below.

Finally, a Crawl Variable name must be given. The Crawl Variable name should be noted and 
will be crucial later in the process of inserting the RSS feed into the MediaXtreme schedule.  Be 
sure to not add .pag to the crawl variable name as that will be done automatically later…if you 
add .pag the variable name will end up as name.pag.pag which will of course not function at run-
time.  For the above example, enter only YAHOO. 
 
Once the URI is entered, a name and title is given, and the Variable Format 
choices are selected, the new RSS feed must be sent to the MediaXtreme 
player. In order to do this, the Communication button within the MX RSS 
popup window is clicked.   
 
Next, the IP address or DNS name of the MediaZone player is entered or selected in 
the Communication window and the Update button is clicked. This copies the RSS feed 
name and properties onto the player but we still have not yet scheduled it to be played.
